Our story
How a Le Cordon Bleu chef's personal journey became a mission to nourish women across New Zealand.
Why women
Women's nutritional needs change dramatically across life phases — from monthly cycles to pregnancy, from breastfeeding to perimenopause and beyond. These aren't small differences. Hormonal shifts fundamentally change what our bodies need, how we process food, and how we feel.
Yet the food industry largely ignores these differences. Generic meal plans, one-size-fits-all diets, and convenience food designed for no one in particular. Women deserve better than that. They deserve food that understands their biology and supports them through every phase.
That understanding — that women are unique and that food has an immediate and lasting effect on our bodies — is where Trophi began.
About Trophi
Trophi — from the Greek word for nourishment — exists with one clear purpose: to nourish women throughout key phases of their life. Not with fad diets or supplements, but with real food. Beautiful, delicious, thoughtfully prepared food.
Our approach rests on three principles:
Quality nourishment
Every meal is designed to deliver the specific nutrients women need — not just calories, but genuine nourishment that your body can use.
Prepared by science
Recipes grounded in nutritional research, understanding how women's bodies respond to different foods at different times.
Balanced energy
Food that sustains you — steady energy throughout the day, without the crashes that come from processed convenience food.
Our vision is simple but ambitious: for New Zealand women to be the most well-nourished in the world.
Meet Ky
Kylee Slater is a Le Cordon Bleu trained chef, a mother of three, and the founder of Trophi. For years, she spent her days cooking for everyone else — her family, her clients, her community — while surviving on whatever she could grab between tasks. Sound familiar?
After her third child, everything changed. Hormonal chaos, exhaustion, brain fog, and a body that didn't feel like hers anymore. The usual advice — eat less, exercise more, push through — wasn't working. So Ky did what she does best: she went back to the kitchen.
But this time, she also went to the research. She dove deep into women's nutritional science, studying how hormones affect metabolism, how nutrient needs shift across life phases, and how the right food at the right time can fundamentally change how a woman feels.
What she discovered was both obvious and revolutionary: food is medicine. Not in a clinical, joyless way — but in the truest sense. Beautiful, delicious food, made with understanding and care, can transform a woman's energy, mood, and health.
Trophi is the result of that journey. Every recipe carries Ky's expertise as a chef and her deep understanding of what women's bodies actually need.
Our thinking
Tasty & nutritious
We refuse to choose between food that's good for you and food that tastes incredible. Ky's chef training means every dish is designed to delight — and her nutritional knowledge ensures it delivers exactly what your body needs.
Plant-based
Our food is predominantly plant-based, built around whole foods that are naturally rich in the nutrients women need most. Plants are powerful — they provide fibre, antioxidants, and phytonutrients that support hormonal balance and overall wellbeing.
Backed by science
Every recipe is informed by current nutritional research specific to women's health. We don't follow trends — we follow the evidence, working with the latest understanding of how women's bodies respond to different foods at different life stages.
Quality ingredients
We use organic ingredients where possible, source locally from Wellington's seasonal produce, and never take shortcuts. No fillers, no artificial anything. Just real food, prepared with genuine care and expertise.
